The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) is a NASA satellite mission looking for heat left over from the Big Bang.

One of the results of the program has narrowed the creation of the universe to around 13.7 billion years ago, which is nice, since the earliest estimates of the age of the universe in the 1920's stated that the Big Bang happened after the Earth was created. Science marches on!
