"Vulpecula" was a constellation named and created by Johan Hevelius in 1642. While observing the sky, he was struck by the resemblance of the star positions to the sex organs of the hermaphrodite newt, a creature then of special interest to alchemists and astrologers. The constellation name he chose was a contraction, a bit obscure for political correctness, but sure to evoke a "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" from sophisticated astronomers.
