I'm using Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer fresh out of the box instead of my normal arrangement of Mac OS X. The SG logo at upper left doesn't fit in its allocated space if the user shrinks their text size to small or smaller. That's on all pages and looks pretty sloppy. Could someone who can adjust that fundamental page code shrink the logo so that it fits on the sidebar? Can you make it scale with the column size? --Beth Katz 11:52, 26 Sept 2007 (EDT) As a followup, on my Mac, the logo slides underneath the words as the column shrinks. On Windows, the logo stands on top of the words if I've shrunk the text size. Argh! I'll try to remember to check Linux. --Beth Katz 20:20, 26 Sept 2007 (EDT)

In June 2007, those randomly named accounts are shoving piles of spam onto pages. Note that they (mostly) are not replacing the page contents. They are shoving the spam in front of the existing contents. So I've been deleting the spam but leaving what was there. Luckily many of the changes were to Talk pages rather than articles. But I expect there will be more attacks. Some pages (current events) have been vandalized. Could we please disable all seemingly random-named account names? A real person doesn't need a random account name. --Beth Katz 11:07, 11:38, and 12:40, 15 June 2007 (EDT)

As of April 11, 2007, there have been a substantial number of new accounts created with random usernames, that seem to have been created by a bot. I don't know that it's actually nefarious activity, but some (not all) of the edits have resulted in lost content and broken URLs. If it is a helpful bot, it's a broken helpful bot!

  • Hi Moby Dick, I see what you mean. It does look like some sort of bot, I'll have a look at it. --Matt 08:40, 11 April 2007 (EDT)
  • Do you have the IP of the bot on hand? There are public lists of common bots by IP so you can eliminate that possibility and see if it was a malicious Wiki spam script. -- Taospark 03:05, 20 April 2007 (EDT)
  • Is anything going to be done to revert these edits? The article on the moon has since been human-edited without repairing the bot's damage. Isn't it standard for the bot creator to fix this if it was a genuine friendly bot? --Moby Dick 16:38, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

Ok... i was reading the Media wiki help file but how would one move articals that where create under a wrong title, i the past I left them and made a redirect to the correct one. -- Jorge

  • You should be able to just click the Move button at the top of the article page. This will allow you to supply a new title. The history will be preserved. The system will automatically create a redirect from the original page to the new page for you. If the change is purely one of capitalisation or mispelling I'll delete the original page. If you are going to move pages can you also use the What links here option to update any other pages that link to the original article.
  • Ouch I feel so stupid for not seeing the move link! Thanks

Yes more spam you receive from me, can you delete User_talk:Jorge ? i accidentally create that a while ago. Thanks.

  • Done.

Hey Matt. I just did a redirect from "Science fiction" to "Science Fiction." can you delete the "science fiction" one? Kevin 09:11, 29 September 2006 (EDT)

I tried to move Jorge -> User:Jorge but that isn't working because User:Jorge exists and is redirecting to Jorge.

Can you move Jorge to User:Jorge (would the links need to be fixed?)

  • I've moved your bio to the User namespace and cleaned up all of the links.

User Asdfa is adding links for porn sites.

  • I've blocked this user indefinitely. Thanks for cleaning up the mess.

Hi, Matt. I created Light pollution with a lowercase p. I've merged the content with Light Pollution and fixed the links from pages that linked there. I think "Light pollution" can be deleted now. I marked it for deletion. Thanks. Beth Katz

2 Redirects May Be Needed

I'm seeing links being made to "light year" and "light years" in other entries with a very absent dash. Since I'm not sure if the dash is personal preference or just how you nutty non-Americans spell it, I've used the non-dash plural version as it's what I've seen in most astronomy publications.

But no matter which spelling you guys choose (I'm fine with any version), we should pick one and have 2 redirects to get rid of deadlinks for a very basic astronomical term on Slackerpedia. This sounds like a call that should be made by someone besides an upstart such as myself.

I've had a quick look at some of my books and also the Wikipedia entry for light-year and it looks like the hyphen is the prefered spelling. I think I've fixed up all of the entries that contain light year. However, I'll add a redirect for Light Year
