Tidal Forces

Tidal Forces are caused by one object pulling on another in a celestial game of tug-of-war.
Earth's Moon pulls Earth's oceans closer to it as they rotate below it. That causes sometimes dramatic changes in the water level on the shoreline.
The Moon keeps the same face toward the Earth because it is tidally locked (more tidal forces) to the Earth.
