Subramanyan Chandrasekhar (Oct 19, 1910 - Aug 21, 1995) or "Chandra" was a bad-ass astrophysicist who refined formally the physics of stellar structure and radiative transfer. He calculated the maximum mass of a white dwarf (now known as the Chandrasekhar Limit) and worked out the mathematics of black holes. For this he was ridiculed by his mentor, Arthur Eddington, who was proved famously wrong by his student.

Chandra wrote several famous books which are so complex as to be virtually unreadable by anyone. He was also, apparently, a very nice fellow.
