Second Life is "an online society within a 3D world, where users can explore, build, socialize, and participate in their own economy."[1] It is very similar to games like Everquest and World of Warcraft, except that it isn't a game, there is no fighting and the users create the environment. Second Life is free to join but real money can be spent purchasing goods and property.

In the middle of November 2006, Aaron Price posted to the Slackerpedia Forum asking "Does anyone here have an account in Second Life?" [2] So began the Slackerpedia Galactica media empire's move into a new marketplace. By the end of the month the Slacker Astronomy Planetarium had been constructed, on land purchased and donated by Aaron. The planetarium was envisaged as a place for Slacker Astronomers to meet in a virtual environment. For anyone wanting to visit the planetarium it is located at Carmine 122,7,180.

If you visit Second Life, keep an eye out for Slacker Speedwell and Slacker Cleanslate.

Future Plans

Once construction of the planetarium is complete, a cathedral to the Flying Spaghetti Monster is planned for the adjoining land. Fund raising is currently underway to purchase the adjoining land.

Warning

Second Life could be is a serious time sink so beware!
