Proton

A Proton is a bit of positively charged stuff inside an atom. It's about as massive (or has about as much energy as) a Neutron. However, Protons have positive charge. Hydrogen atoms typically have just one Proton. If an Electron is also bound, then it is called an hydrogen atom. If there is no Electron it might be an ionized hydrogen atom, or it might be called a Proton, or it might even be called a Cosmic Ray. But don't call it late for dinner.

In the Solar System the greatest source of protons is the Sun, sending Solar Wind (mainly high-energy electrons and protons of about 1 keV) throughout the system causing auroras and the tails of comets to always pointing away from the sun. (This is handy to know as, at some time in their life, everyone needs to know where the Sun is at night... and protons just do it for you.)
