Procyon

The ninth brightest star (in visible light) in Earth's skies. Its brightness makes up for the fact that Canis Minor is a totally lame constellation. Two stars?? That's a line segment, not a constellation!

Procyon has a spectral type F5, which means it's a wee bit hotter than our Sun (G2). It's also slightly more evolved, in transition between dwarf and subgiant (luminosity class IV-V). It's probably 50 percent larger by mass than our Sun, and a few billion years younger. It's also a spectroscopic binary.
