Physicist

A very general term that describes a scientist who very specifically chooses the field of physics for study.

Why is it very general? There are theoretical physicists and there are experimental physicists. There are condensed matter (bigger than an atom) physicists, atomic physicists, particle or quantum (subatomic) physicists, and most germane to astronomy - cosmologists. Then there are the ones that some might call sell-outs - applied physicists, who are basically fancy engineers with a fancy degree. All this should tell you that when someone tosses the term physicist around, it's not one to be taken lightly and should always be followed with the annoyingly nosy question, "What kind of physicist?"

Feel free to bring along this list too for extra Irritation Points™. There are worse things to do in the name of science - like being a geologist.
