Octans is the constellation whose real estate includes the South Celestial Pole.

No one quite knows what Octans means. Since this is one of the constellations created once Europeans got to see the southern sky, one tends to think that they began running out of ideas, perhaps.

Octans is a faint constellation with none of its stars going above 3.73 magnitude. Fortunately, due to the current lack of light pollution in Antarctica, this has not proved to be a problem and you can still see this constellation. The same cannot be said of Ursa Minor in, say, New York City, which, of course, tends to make Ursa Minor angry.

And since Ursa means bear, you wouldn't like Ursa Minor when he's angry.
