Neil deGrasse Tyson

Dr Tyson is one of the greatest opponents of the "planet" Pluto out there. He removed it from the Hayden Planetarium's Solar System model and said he wouldn't put it back even if it was voted a planet at the 2006 IAU meeting. In fact he got busted up by Stephen Colbert on his show about the first floated proposal including Pluto, Eris, and Ceres as planets. But he won out in the end and Pluto was removed from planethood.
Dr. Tyson is actually a very well renowned astronomer as well as science popularizer and and leader in the skeptic movement. He is the current host of Nova Science Now program. He has many papers to his credit and has participated in many shows on cosmology, astronomy and astrophysics.
He was the first New York City native to be appointed director of the Hayden also. Not bad for a kid from Brooklyn.
