Messier Marathon

A Messier Marathon is a hazing ritual for amateur astronomers. During the ritual, an amateur attempts to observe as many Messier objects as possible in one night. In more rigorous marathons, the observer is required to sketch the object as well. These are usually done in a large group at a local amateur astronomy club, which helps to prevent said observers from going insane before the night is done.
Messier Marathons require the liberal expenditure of spousal permission units.
