Eris
From Slackerpedia Galactica
Eris is the name given to 2003 UB313 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in September 2006. It is the largest known Dwarf Planet. It is known that it has a least one moon which is called Dysnomia. Eris, or Xena as it was informally nicknamed by its discoverer, intensified the debate on the definition of a planet since it was larger than Pluto, the smallest known planet at the time. Eris, when located at the furthest point in its orbit, is approximately 97 AU from the Sun.
Mythologically known as the goddess of strife, Eris' Latin name is Discordia.
Discordianism has long been an underground belief system that has seen its popularity rise with the Internet. It is unknown who was paid off in the IAU by Discordian followers to get this name assigned to 2003 UB313. At the next IAU meeting we will look to see who is driving the fastest car and assign blame thusly.
Eris' co-discoverer Mike Brown was the one who actually proposed the names Eris and Dysnomia to the IAU.
The minor planet center lists this object as 136199 Eris.
