I am a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy [1] at McMaster University [2], Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. My current research interests include supernovae, dark matter studies using microlensing, and variable stars. I am also part of the Science Team of the "Next Generation Microlensing Survey" (a.k.a. "SuperMACHO") which recently published the discovery of light echoes from ancient supernovae in the Large Magellanic Clouds in the journal Nature (Dec 22 2005 issue).[3]
I have been a member of the AAVSO [4] since I was a teenager - which is a long time ago - and am also Director of the William J. McCallion Planetarium [5] at McMaster University. I authored the recently-released childrens book entitled "Amazing Facts about Australia's Southern Skies" (Steve Parish Publishing, Brisbane, Australia). [6]
Astronomy outreach is important to me and I have spoken at many meeting and public evenings. I am thrilled to be part of the TSG - "Team Slackerpedia Galactica" - which is a combination of the TSA and MSG as far as I can tell!
