Canis Major

Canis Major is the big dog constellation. It contains the very brightest star Sirius, which is also called the Dog Star. Serious! So bright, it often is visible in the evening before bright planets like Saturn.

It has other bright stars like Adhara, Mirzam, Wezen, and Aludra. The open cluster M41 is also there. Canis Major lies near the lower left foot of Orion. In fact, the three stars of the belt of Orion point to Sirius.
