Bill Clinton

William Clinton was President of the United States between January 1993 and January 2001. He is (as far as is known) not an astronomer of any stripe. Given that it does take some effort and planning to run for office, he probably isn't much of a slacker, either.

NASA did okay for itself during his tenure so we'll give him a pass. Although he never appointed a NASA administrator (Daniel Goldin, who served during the entire Clinton presidency, was a George H.W. Bush appointee) we'll give him credit for not screwing anything up. Oh wait, Mars Climate Orbiter failed during the Clinton administration; that one overflowed with slackness.

Clinton made several unwanted cameo appearances in the film Contact -- unwanted, because it was considered bad form for film makers to use footage of sitting presidents (and the Presidential seal) in their works.

He did not, however, have anything to do with the message from Vega.
