Which came first the galaxy or the constellation? Many people seem to forget that the Andromeda Galaxy is so named because it is in the Andromeda constellation.

The Andromeda Galaxy is the closest large galaxy to our own Milky Way galaxy. Despite the massive size of the galaxy in our sky (several times bigger than the Moon) it was only the 31st object in Charles Messier's catalogue, it is Messier object M31.

The galaxy has two small companion galaxies similar to our own LMC and SMC, they are M32 and M110 (it took him a while to find that one as well).

Just beware of the 100-tentacled aliens that are coming to enslave us all.
