America is the double continent, South America and North America, with various countries in each continent. This puts into perspective what many people incorrectly think is "America", the country squeezed between Canada and Mexico.

United States of America

"America", or the United States of America, is the world's great superpower. The country is composed of 50 states and a number of external territories. 49 of the states are contiguous in the "continental US" (squeezed between Canada and Mexico on the North American continent.)

This country is the Earth's hot-spot for light pollution (light escaping into the atmosphere that obscures astronomical observation) as well as most other types of pollution.
