Alpha Centauri
From Slackerpedia Galactica
Alpha Centauri are the three closest stars to us. Yes, that's right, one name for three stars.
Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B form a binary system. That is, they orbit one another closely, but without touching. Think of an elegant waltz as opposed to a high school dance. Alpha Centauri A is a G2 star, which makes it a twin of our own Sun. Alpha Centauri B is an angry orange K1 star, cooler and smaller than the Sun.
Alpha Centauri C is the third wheel. Loosely attached, and circling far from the centre of the system, this lone red dwarf is the closest (known) star to the Sun. For that reason, this M5 red dwarf is often known as "Proxima" Centauri.
